100% dotticure, 100% fun!

I have played around with dots before (some of you might remember this manithis mani), but I've never done a full-on dotticure.  So the other night I busted out a bunch of fun, vibrant cremes and a super sparkly foil and just went for it!  I thought the colors looked awesome together in the bottles, but I wasn't such a fan once they were on my nails in tiny dots. :-/  I'm not entirely sure why...maybe it just felt too kiddish for me?  My inspiration was this dotticure from The Polish Playground, and I think I like her color palette much better.  Feels more grown up & refined!

I used one coat of Sinful Colors My Buoyfriend on all but my ring finger, which is two coats Sinful Colors 24/7 (no undies) which I will again tout as the perfect chalky neon pink!, then used Zoya Arizona, Essie Mojito Madness, My Buoyfriend, 24/7 and Skinfood Glipop Pedicure Sparkle 05 (annoyingly "named" yet gorgie South Korean polishes!) for the dots. :)  All sealed with some Seche Vite.

In an uncharacteristic move for me, I'm only showing you one photo of this mani, simply because I didn't really love it.  I think it might have to do with the fact that the first thing that popped into my head once I had it all done was: Día de los Muertos sugar skulls.  e.g.:

Yes, this is a cookie, but you get the idea.

I hate skulls.  Can't even believe I'm putting this on my blog! :P  Anyhoo, maybe some of you will find this super fun and awesome...  if anyone wants a dotticure for Día de los Muertos, come see me!

  1. Your color palette is actually quite pretty and lively! I'm sorry you're not loving it but I certainly understand the whole association thing. I've never quite understood Dia de Los Muertos it it seems ever so slightly macabre? That cookie is kinda wierding me out, lool.

    1. Well thank you! It certainly WAS bright! ;) I actually only wore it one day and didn't even do the other hand. I went to work with my left hand all dotticured up and and the right, just done in My Buoyfriend. :P Oh well, I'm sure NO one even noticed!
Yeah, it's a somewhat strange holiday in my mind. Although part of it has to do with remembrance of loved ones that have passed on, which is nice. But like Halloween, I think it's become a bit of a commercialized novelty, so we get all sorts of weird things like creepy skull cookies! ;)

  2. Oh man, I'm sorry you don't love this but I do!! I absolutely love the colors you chose and the design actually reminds me of a funky and cool summer sun with polka dot rays! Look at this way, you have a great Cinco de Mayo mani for next year! :-P

    1. I think there MUST be something wrong with Blogger on some days (or maybe it's just when I'm trying to use it!) because I KNOW I replied to your comment already, but it is mysteriously not here now. -_-
Anyways! Hehehe, I'm glad YOU love this! :D Thank you!
And yeah, I guess, if my co-workers (who are Mexican) decide to do something to celebrate, I will have a great mani! ;)

  3. Wow! Nice work. I totally remember that mani from The Polish Playground. I have dotting tools and haven't used them yet. I really should soon! I love the colors you chose and yes, it does resemble that skull :) I kindof like skulls ;)

    1. Awww thank you Essie! I do love the colors, but this just wasn't my favorite mani for some reason. :-/ You absolutely should take the plunge with your dotting tools! It's SO easy to do fun stuff with dots...and I find it helpful to look at the image of something I'm trying to do, so it guides me. Didn't you say you do that with your cakes? And of course there are OODLES of dotticures out there to use as inspiration. :)
Oh, I actually just ordered a set of legit dotting tools from Born Pretty yesterday! I saw one blogger's post of a Sweet Color polish that I HAD to have, and it was all downhill from there. :P oops! haha
